Eyebrow tinting is a popular beauty procedure that uses a specific type of semi-permanent dye to enhance your brows. It can be carried out using a home kit, but it is not advisable if you want the best results. Be aware, though that if you are tinting grey or white hair it can be resistant to the dye, and therefore is more difficult to get the dye the correct shade. What Happens in an Eyebrow Tinting Session?
Having your brows tinted is a quick procedure; an average session takes around 20 minutes, including a consultation with the beauty therapist where you will discuss how you would like your brows to look.
The area will be prepped, cleaned and thin layer of skin protection balm applied to stop any stain. The dye is applied, first in the direction that your brow hairs grow in and then another layer in the opposite direction. It is then left for on a few minutes, and any excess dye will be wiped away. If you would like your brows darker then the tint is applied again until a colour you are satisfied with is achieved.
How Long Do Tinted Eyebrows Last?
You will notice the difference straight away. You might see a little dye on the skin in between your brow hairs too, but this is not anything to worry about and should soon fade. There is no need to use your usual cosmetic brow products once the procedure has been finished, and it is advisable to avoid getting the area wet for around twelve hours afterwards.
The tint itself should last anything from three to six weeks. To keep the colour longer, it is also advised that you see your beauty therapist for touch-ups from every four to six weeks. After a brow tint, avoid oil-based cleansers and make up removers, and instead switch to gel or cream-based cleansers.
Is Brow Tinting Safe?
As with all procedures, you should shop around and find a qualified beauty therapist who knows what they are doing. Recommendations are a great way to find someone to tint your brows; if you have already seen their work and liked it, you can be confident that they will do a great job for you, too.
As with any kind of hair dye there is a risk of an allergic reaction from brow tinting. Under no circumstances should normal hair dye ever be used on your brows; the skin around the eye is thinner than the skin on the rest of the body, and this makes it more susceptible to irritation. It is best to carry out a patch test before a treatment, just to see if there is any reaction.
